Thus, during the period from 2014 to 2024, the unemployment rate increased from 16.2% to 21.3% (from 19.3% to 21.2% on average) in urban areas and from 10. 5 to 21.4 in rural areas.

Mr. Benmoussa, indicated during a press conference dedicated to the presentation of the detailed results of the General Population Census, on the data of the general census completed by the Planning Commission, “this rate will remain high for women, 25 .9 percent in 2024, compared to 29.6 percent in 2014, compared to men (20.1 in 2024, compared to 12.4 percent in 2014).”

The labor market situation was characterized by a low activity rate, since around four out of ten people aged 15 and over (41.6%) will exercise economic activity in 2024, compared to 47.6 % in 2014, he stressed.

Regarding the difference in this high figure compared to studies carried out by the delegation, which indicate that the national unemployment rate remains around 13.7 percent, Benmoussa explained that this difference in figures is “natural”, because the unemployment rate 21.3 percent was achieved through citizen declarations. The activity rate is higher for men (67.1% in 2024 compared to 75.5% in 2014 compared to women (respectively 16.8% compared to 4.20%). This rate also increases in urban areas ( 43.8% in 2024 compared to 49.1% in 2014) compared to rural areas (respectively 37.6% compared to 45.1%).

At the regional level, the highest unemployment rates were recorded in the regions of Guelmim-Oued Noun (31.5%), Orient (30.4%), Beni Mellal-Khénifra (26.8% ), Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (26.6%) and Fez. -Meknes (23%), 3%), while relatively lower unemployment rates were recorded in the regions of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (10.6%), Casablanca-Settat (18.8%), and Tangier -Tetouan.
