Thionck-Essyl (Bignona), Dec 17 (APS) – More than 200 young people from the fourteen regions of Senegal are participating in the third edition of the agroecology camp organized in the commune of Thionck-Essyl (Bignona), by the Cadre consultation and cooperation of rural people (CNCR) and its partners, noted the APS.
“This gathering which takes place from December 16 to 19 will allow the young generation to better understand all the questions inherent to climate change and the preservation of the environment with a view to offering healthy food to populations in the future. », explained the Secretary General of the CNCR, Amadou Makhtar Mbodj, during the launch of this edition.
»This third edition of the peasant agroecology camp on climate and community management of natural resources is organized to encourage an imminent return to agricultural orthodoxy where everything is obtained from the land, including with the use of compost,” he added.
Amadou Makhtar Mbodj invited producers to put an end to any form of agriculture that does not respect environmental standards.
“We cannot continue to practice agriculture with pesticides. However, our elders, concerned about their environment, have always opted for a healthy diet. We think we can return to this old formula,” he suggested, specifying that “this is why we organize these agroecology camps for young people.”
“We organize these camps to train them and raise awareness so that they can appropriate these concepts in order to help us achieve the objectives that we have set for ourselves,” he explained.
The second deputy mayor of the commune of Thionck-Essyl, Oulimata Djiba, welcomes the choice of their local authority to host this camp focused on agroecology which brings together more than 200 young people from Senegal.
“The environment is our primary tool of life. We encourage the CNCR to continue to carry out awareness-raising actions for a return to agriculture without chemical fertilizers,” pleaded Ms. Djiba.
Mamadou Sow, communications manager for the CNCR Youth College, in turn welcomed the organization of this camp which allows “to better equip the participants, for three days, on issues related to climate change and climate resilience”.
