They went there on tiptoe, they came back with a smile.

The organizers of the Pérouges Christmas market can breathe a sigh of relief, after a well-oiled and trouble-free edition. It should be remembered that the Christmas market in the medieval city was overwhelmed by its success two years ago. The unexpected influx of people had ruined everything, and resulted in traffic jams in the surrounding area and disgruntled visitors and traders.

A pumped-up comeback

So many people, we had never seen that in Pérouges, the very popular medieval town in the basin.

To digest this disappointment, the market was canceled last year, only to return in full force this year. Inflated, but above all hyper-squared, with the soldiers of Operation Sentinel, the gendarmes, and also the municipal police officers.

There were around sixty volunteers to supervise all this, including those from Mêl’Âge, the village youth association who managed all the management of car flows around the city. But the real solution was this capacity of 2,000 people maximum, authorized in the medieval city within the walls.

Ninety exhibitors this year

The public could, however, freely enjoy the exhibitors installed outside the enclosure. The market had 90 this year. Pérouges heritage animation, at the initiative of the event, does not yet have the count, but expects around 20,000 visitors over two days.
