The construction site for the future National Museum of Archeology and Earth Sciences is taking shape. After the selection, via competition, of the client: the architectural firm Mehdi Mejjati (Symbiose Architecture) in collaboration with the Italian Nemesi Architects and the American Pool Engineering, the Local Development Company (SDL) Rabat Région Aménagement launched an international call for tenders for the first work package.
This lot concerns general earthworks and stabilization, work estimated at 53.6 million dirhams and expected to be spread over a period of five months. Bids are scheduled to open on January 8, 2025, marking the official start of construction.

The museum, supervised by the National Foundation of Museums of Morocco, will be located on the site of the former headquarters of the United States embassy in Rabat. Built on an area of 2.7 hectares, it will offer a breathtaking view of the Bouregreg valley as well as the city’s new architectural icons, notably the Grand Théâtre de Rabat and the majestic Mohammed VI Tower.
This new building will not replace the archaeological museum located near the headquarters of the National Broadcasting Company (SNRT). It will constitute a modern infrastructure, meeting international standards, and will have the mission of highlighting Morocco’s prestigious past. The museum will promote the richness of the country’s archaeological and geological heritage, through exhibitions dedicated to the tangible and intangible forms of this heritage.
