Responding to questions from parliamentarians, during the session devoted to general policy questions, the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, assured that, contrary to what is overused, drinking water from desalination programs is made available to consumers at the same price. The Head of Government cited the case of the city of Agadir in this regard.
Concerning precisely the issue of managing water scarcity, Aziz Akhannouch will note that the Executive was aware that it is a question of “a major national challenge” and that it was necessary to act quickly to resolve this problematic. Moreover, upon taking office, the government began with the interconnection between the Sebou basin and Bouregreg. A project, the Head of Government will recall, which was carried out “in record time and with a substantial investment of 6 billion dirhams. »
In the same vein, the government has launched several structuring projects, particularly in terms of seawater desalination, by setting up 9 stations which require a total investment of 1.7 billion dirhams, will support the Head of Government. However, this option is bearing fruit, including the case of the Chtouka-Ait Baha station without which Agadir would have no water.
Other projects are also planned in several large cities in Morocco, including Casablanca, Rabat and Nador. The objective being that we can “meet the needs of Moroccans, all Moroccans without exception, so that they are supplied with drinking water at an affordable price”.
And contrary to what some people say, Aziz Akhannouch will make a point of specifying that “it is not only wealthy people who benefit, but all citizens”. Also, he will note, that the efforts made also contribute to “the fight against disparities between regions and territories”.
