So, good or bad student the Greater Montauban Agglomeration in matters of collection and recycling of household waste ? In 2018, Grand Montauban responded to a call for projects from the Environment and Energy Management Agency (Ademe) in order to experiment with a Performance contract on household wasteand assimilated in the territory (CPDMA).

This contract was a first in France . Objectives: move from remuneration per tonne encouraging an increase in collection volume to remuneration based on performance encouraging it to be reduced.

What does this contract consist of?

In this performance contract, the objectives of Grand Montauban are to:

• Reduce waste production on the territory: -10% between 2018 and 2028
  Overall, over the entire market (7 years), the reduction objectives are: -12% waste
  household waste, -2% selective sorting, -15% green waste, -35% bulky items.
• Create a new recycling center backed by a recycling center. In operation since March 2023, “Éconord” offers a recycling center, to which is added a 4,000 m recycling facility² responding to practices of revaluation and reconditioning of objects or materials.
• Promote and develop employment and integration in the territory thanks to the partnership between local players in the social and solidarity economy and Suez. At the “Éconord” recycling center, workshop staff repair used items, offered at low prices in a sales area. A “material library” space provides for the reuse of materials (door frames, tiling, etc.). These developments are managed by Suez for the recycling part and by the IDDEES association, specializing in reuse and working for social reintegration.
• Preserve the environmentand the quality of life of residents.

Since the launch, where have we been?

“Regarding the annual performance objectives , those of 2028 have already been achievedfor three out of four of them: – 12.5% ​​for household waste, – 7.3% for selective sorting, + 4.2% for green waste (after a sharp drop in 2022) and – 48, 7% for bulky items,” notes the Greater Montauban agglomeration.

On the figures side, in 2023:

• 260 tonnes of reuse were recovered
• 88 tonnes of bio-waste were collected
• 790 green waste shredding sessions took place at home
• 574 composters were sold, including 299 delivered and assembled at residents’ homes
• six structures are partners of Suez (Montauban Services, IDDEES, the foundation
  Opteo, Emmaüs 82, the Permanent Center for Environmental Initiatives Quercy-Garonne and Like Intérim) and recorded 53,000 hours of integration, including 22 jobs on the recycling site.
