Alain Diaz, winner of the Nièvre crafts prize, left Alsace for Morvan

In the Lormes valley, craftsmen are working to breathe new life into the old mill. In spring 2025, the Make Ici network will open the doors of its new third location, Ici Morvan, in these buildings. “This is where I will have my future workshop,” smiles Alain Diaz with a slight Alsatian accent.

A few wood shavings have slipped onto his black fleece vest. The cabinetmaker left (Haut-Rhin) to settle in Morvan. “Over there, they no longer know the bocage,” saddens Alain Diaz.

I wanted to get back to nature, to be in the countryside, to leave the city.

The winding roads of the Morvan are an ideal playground for him. Here, the craftsman can also reconnect with road cycling. “I’ve been doing it for about 35 years. »

Between the noise of hammers and drills, the craftsman's machines are not yet present. Wood waits, patiently, placed against the chipboard wall of the small building which adjoins the old mill. A coffee table, a bench and a television stand are there, warm. This last piece of furniture allowed Alain Diaz to be rewarded by the Chamber of Trades and Crafts of Nièvre, Monday October 21.
