An ambitious project. While the construction of Joliot-Curie college in Bagneux (Hauts-de-Seine), which will open its doors in 2027, is due to start next year, the department has found a solution expressebut innovative, in order to welcome students during the work. Thus, a substitute college entirely made of wood is currently being assembled on the site of the former Chateaubriant nursery school, since Monday July 1, 2024.
A college that can be stored and reused
This unique college project “mountable-dismountable”born from a request from the Hauts-de-Seine department, was designed by the Parisian architecture agency Atelier B2A and developed by Bouygues Building Île-de-France Public facilities. This must be built in a very short time, “14 months, 2 times less only for a new construction”, slips Bouygues construction to Paris news.
This substitute college, in which the 400 students divided into 22 classes will return to school during the school year, from April 2025can be stored and reused in other municipalities in the department. The latter has acquired the structure for an amount of around 15 million euros. “The college has an unlimited lifespan,” assures Bouygues Construction, it's not Ikea where the structure is damaged when screwing and unscrewing.
A temporary college of 2,750 m²
“The idea is to not have no difference with the previous college,” explains the manufacturer. The architecture of the project is “sober and contemporary” with work on the facades making it impossible to see “ the modularity of the structure ». The college will include three distinct centers over a surface area of 2,750 m²: a teaching center with 12 classrooms, a catering and kitchen center and a health center.
This initiative aims to provide temporary solution and functional when the renovation work on the Joliot-Curie college takes place. Construction will begin as soon as the students have left the premises. For the department, all of this work is part of theurban renewal project from the Pierre Plate district, at the arrival of metro line 4 and line 15 of the Grand Paris Express in the town.
