Matam, Dec 4 (APS) – The “Yaakaar-Youth and Citizenship” project plans to rehabilitate and equip the Youth Space of Ourossogui (north), at a cost of 200 million CFA francs, indicated, Wednesday, its project manager, Christian Ndour.
“Matam is a priority for us. It is in this sense that we are going to rehabilitate the Ourossogui Youth Space at a cost of 200 million CFA francs. This will allow young people to carry out their activities there, to have all the necessary technical equipment while making it attractive,” he said.
Mr. Ndour was speaking at a meeting of the regional development committee (CRD) of Matam, intended to present the Yaakaar-Jeunesse citizenship project, implemented in the region by the NGO Jeunesse et développement.
This rehabilitation aims, according to Christian Ndour, to make this youth space more adequate, by providing it with equipment worth 50 million CFA francs.
The project also provides subsidies for youth associations in the Matam region, as well as capacity building for civil society organizations.
“In the Matam region, we will work on different aspects, such as the empowerment of youth associations, the dynamics of territorial equity and the provision of entertainment materials to young people,” said Mr. Ndour. .
Youth civic engagement is also part of the project piloted by the Senegal Youth Consortium, with the engagement of 120 young people as part of a civic journey.
Mr. Ndour emphasizes that it is a way “of making young people model and active citizens in their localities” and of allowing them to have access to safe, equipped spaces that meet their needs.
The deputy governor of Matam in charge of development, Tafsir Baba Hann, welcomed this initiative which, according to him, promotes citizen participation.
