The Paris region is the first affected, but others are expected to follow. The seasonal flu epidemic has started in mainland France and, among babies, the bronchiolitis epidemic continues to spread, summarized the French Public Health agency on Wednesday December 4.
Ile-de-France entered a flu epidemic last week, ending on December 2, according to the weekly report from the public health agency. Five other regions are in the so-called pre-epidemic phase and should therefore join the Paris region: Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Brittany, Grand Est, Hauts-de-France and Normandy.
“The indicators [de la] flu continued to increase in towns and hospitals and in all age groups”summarized Public Health France. Vaccination against seasonal flu, particularly aimed at the elderly, remains sluggish compared to previous years according to the agency, which recalls that “vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself”.
The third epidemic to be monitored by the agency, bronchiolitis, which mainly affects babies, is booming, since the metropolis is now almost entirely affected apart from Corsica. Overseas, the bronchiolitis epidemic is also hitting Guyana, Guadeloupe and Martinique.
