The country producers' market organized by the Chamber of Agriculture is dressed in Christmas colors.

For the 23rd edition of the Christmas country producers' market, the Lot-et-Garonne Chamber of Agriculture saw the big picture. “We took double the number of exhibitors compared to the first years!” rejoices Nathalie Roussille, president of the Agriculture and Tourism Association in Lot-et-Garonne.

50 producers and artisans will present their products in the parking lot of the Chamber of Agriculture on December 20, 21 and 22. Three capitals are planned. “We risk having to push the walls next year if there are so many exhibitors,” comments Nathalie Roussille. “But it’s the farmers’ house, we would lose our soul if we changed location.”

After the great success of the summer markets, the organizers still hope for as many people. “The Christmas market is so anchored in people's minds that we don't worry too much… The public changes over the years but is always there.”

“We have everything we need”

With its local producers, this market is part of the continuity of the agricultural network. The difference lies in the fact that in summer, the products offered are more anchored in catering. The Christmas market offers a lot of takeaway sales, and specific, seasonal products like kiwis. Honey is perfect for the winter period.

Nathalie Roussille notes that, while many producers have retired since 2001, more and more young people are taking over. “Sometimes even very young people. Despite the current problems in the sector, the workforce is renewing itself. It's a positive sign, it's a way of saying that we can make a living from our production, even through direct sales. “

A large majority of producers come from Lot-et-Garonne, but a few come from Lot, Gers, Dordogne or even further afield. Cuillier champagne arrives from Pouillon, in . “Foods like champagne and oysters are more difficult to find in our department, but otherwise, we have everything we need,” says Benjamin Reyt, advisor to the Chamber.

Among the new products, black pork is expected on the stall of the Peyriès estate. Truffles, stars of the holiday season, will also be invited thanks to producer Guillaume Duprat, from Saint-Pierre-de-Buzet. “Be careful, for truffles, it is better to arrive very early in the morning! » specifies Benjamin Reyt.

Note: the presence of Santa Claus, who will offer a ride in a cart pulled by an ox on Sunday.

The market will take place from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday December 20, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday the 21st and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday the 22nd. Free entry and parking. Chamber of Agriculture of Lot-et-Garonne, 271 rue de Péchabout, . 05 53 77 83 83.
