The renovation of the Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church in Jouy-sur-Morin (Seine-et-) should begin in the next 12 months. This work is necessary to keep this historic monument open. Among the works to be carried out are the restoration of the roof of the bell tower, the ridges of the main roof and the flashing of the sacristy bell tower, specifies The Briard Country Wednesday December 4, 2024.

A two-step intervention

The stability of the church could also be threatened if a beam from the 12the century is not consolidated quickly. These renovations are scheduled during the first phase of the work. The second phase will concern part of the framework, the furniture, the electricity and the stained glass windows. “The first phase costs €120,000 and the second, €5,000,000”indicated Michael Rousseau, mayor of Jouy-sur-Morin.

Such an expense is considerable for the municipality, which can count on help from the Department. Jouy-sur-Morin will, however, have to finance the work to the tune of one million euros and intends to organize events to raise funds and appeal to the Heritage Foundation. Citing an emergency, the councilor expressed his fear of having to close the building to the public if renovations do not begin within a year.
