Literature comes to this week. This Wednesday December 4 and Thursday December 5, Camel Daoudwinner of the Goncourt Prize 2024will be the guest of honor at two bookstores in the department: one in Nîmes and the other in Uzès.

Kamel Daoud is an Algerian writer whose work explores the themes of identity, memory and post-colonial societal fractures. His first novel, The Stranger revisited, The Other Exilereinterprets Camus' famous classic by telling the story of Meursault's brother, thus offering a poignant reflection on modern Algeria and its heartbreaks.

In Zabor or the psalmsDaoud mixes mythology and philosophy to address the quest for meaning and existence in a troubled world.

A committed writer, Kamel Daoud tirelessly criticizes the excesses of religious fanaticism and authoritarian regimes. His latest novel, Houris (Goncourt 2024)questions religious ideals and the illusions they convey, while asking crucial questions about the relationship between belief, power and freedom.

Readers will be able to meet the writer at two events:

Wednesday, December 4 at 6 p.m.: Meeting at the Bookstore Aux Lettres de Mon Moulin12 boulevard Alphonse-Daudet, Nîmes.

Thursday, December 5 at 5 p.m.: Meeting at the Place aux Herbes bookstore7 place aux Herbes, Uzès.
