Tuesday, November 26, the Jean Moulin de Formerie college handed over numerous boxes of toys to the Restos du Cœur. A first which aimed to raise awareness among middle school students.
Three weeks to collect as many toys as possible. From November 5 to 26, Jean Moulin College set up, for the first time, a toy drive to benefit Restos du Cœur.
Everyone could leave, in boxes placed in the reception hall, what they wanted to donate for disadvantaged children.
Learn to share
An operation set up at the initiative of Ms Boulet, education assistant.
She explains:
“We already wanted to do it last year with the Restos du Cœur but we ran out of time. The objective was to teach young people to share, to open up to others, and to realize that not all children have the same luck at Christmas. Then we also have children from disadvantaged backgrounds at school so this collection will perhaps benefit them.”
Ms Boulet, education assistant
“It also helps develop empathy, adds the CPE Ms. Lecronier. Quite a few young people at this age lack empathy..”
“We participate in the magic of Christmas”
Although the collection had difficulty getting started, more and more donations poured in as the days went by. “There were a lot of books and stuffed animals at the beginning and then we saw board games and lots of other things coming.“
“It's great to make others happy. We would like to give every year. It's important to make it a habit. We participate in the magic of Christmas for those who have less means and it also gives a second life to toys that we no longer play with..”
assured college students of the college life council (CVC)
A nice surprise for the Restos du Cœur de Formerie
Everyone was pleasantly surprised, starting with Jean-Claude Roland, manager of Restos du Cœur de Formerie, who came to collect toys on Tuesday, November 26.
He didn't expect to see so many toys so he had to come back later with a truck.
Les Restos help more than 110 people in Formerie
Les Restos du Cœur de Formerie currently helps 64 families (115 people), including around ten children aged 0 to 10. They distribute the equivalent of six meals per week to everyone thanks to their great team of 14 volunteers.
These toys will be distributed on December 18 in Formerie, with the arrival of Santa Claus, a free raffle and Christmas packages, or in the other departmental branches of Restos du Cœur.
The middle school students will go play with the residents of Grandvilliers hospital on December 11 and write them letters to open at Christmas. Last year, their 180 letters delighted residents who sometimes suffer from loneliness during the holidays.
