The first stone of the Villa d'Hustey autonomy residence, in Saint-Paul-lès-Dax, was symbolically laid on Thursday November 28. The residence, designed to accommodate residents with modest incomes over the age of 60, will include 56 housing units (53 T1 bis and 3 T2).
It will offer seniors a quality living environment capable of promoting the maintenance of their physical and psychological autonomy. “Because,” explained Daniel Palmaro, “aging well is not limited to living in an apartment that meets the latest safety standards, it goes well beyond that. »
It will not be a nursing home or a senior service residence, but a non-medical establishment offering common spaces facilitating meeting and sharing, open to the neighborhoods. Families, neighbors and residents of the town will be able to benefit from various services, from the hairdresser, activities, actions to prevent loss of autonomy or catering.
Certain common areas could even be privatized, the objective being to “fight against isolation”, to allow residents to “live in the heart of the city” and “rediscover the salt of life”.
“Aging with dignity”
All the speakers who were invited to seal the first stone highlighted the innovative aspect of this independent residence. For Georges Fernandez, it is about “meeting the challenge of the aging population by offering seniors the opportunity to age with dignity”.
For Henri Bédat, “the establishment is part of the logic of the departmental policy in favor of autonomy, and in the continuity of the plan of the Departmental Council Aging well in the Landes, intended to strengthen the means of supporting people elderly, especially the most vulnerable. » Éric Kerrouche, finally, welcomed “this collective work made possible by the involvement of Saint-Paul elected officials, who have demonstrated innovation and courage”.
The inauguration of the Villa d'Hustey autonomy residence is announced for spring 2026. Less than 200 meters away, a health center is also emerging. It will receive its first patients during the second half of 2025.
