Such a score naturally leaves traces. The players of the Swiss team had closed faces when speaking to the press. Affected by a second period where they clearly missed their point, they nevertheless appreciated the atmosphere in a very well stocked Letzigrund.
ELVIRA HERZOG: We played very well in the first half. We remained very compact and showed that we could stand up to Germany. It will be important to analyze what we could have done better in the second half, in order to get a point in this type of match and to remain consistent for 90 minutes. The 1st goal? It’s always unfortunate to concede just before or after the break. I don’t think it completely destabilized us. We had good energy in the locker room. We wanted to have a good second half. Unfortunately, the result is very different at the end of the match. It hurts. Especially since we held on very well before the break.
VIOLA CALLIGARIS: The first 40 minutes, we defended well, they didn’t have many chances. The goal from a corner hurts. But still, we must remain focused. At 1-0, we still have the possibility of scoring and then we gave up the second half and that is not possible. Against a team like that, it pays off straight away. We were no longer in duels. We let a lot of balls enter the box.
Germany was much stronger, smarter, more clever than us in the second half.
SANDRINE MAURON: There is disappointment and frustration. We didn’t want to take six in front of our audience. Afterwards, it remains a year of preparation where we know that we will only have big teams next year. We will see our draw on December 16, but it is extremely important that we have big teams to face. There will be a lot to analyze. We have a lot of actions where we are one on one with the German center back, where we can create a little more efficiency, a little more rhythm forward. We will quickly have to identify the problems to be better in England.
PIA SUNDHAGE: Germany played well, especially in the second half. I am satisfied with the first half. The way we defended. But I’m not satisfied with the counter-attacks because the goals change the situation. And if we had only scored one out of all the blocks we had, the game could have been a little different. But the German team was much stronger, smarter, smarter than us in the second half.
