The One Love association must leave its Eygliers site from which it has been evicted. She is desperately looking for a place to resettle her shelter but comes up against the disinterest of local elected officials.

Faced with eviction, the One Love shelter will have to leave its site in Eygliers (Hautes-Alpes) on January 13. In the meantime, the association is desperately trying to attract the attention of local elected officials to move the shelter elsewhere.

An emergency meeting was organized this Friday, November 29, but no elected official made the trip with the exception of Vincent Bonardel, deputy of the deputy for the 2nd district of Hautes-Alpes Valérie Rossi and member of the Crots municipal council.

Some had apologized, like the vice-president of the department Marcel Cannat or even senator Jean-Michel Arnaud.

“The mayors are calling on us”

For Éliane Prinderre, the association's secretary, the failure of this initiative demonstrates a lack of concern for the fate of the 140 cats, pigs, sheep, donkeys and horses welcomed over the last five years in a house now judged unsanitary.

“There is a lack of interest, I even wonder if there is awareness of the situation, there are a lot of abandoned animals here, a lot of stray cats. The town halls are calling on us to intervene but when we ask for help, it’s much more complicated,” she denounces to BFM DICI.

This year, for example, at the One Love shelter, 280 cats were welcomed. The association deplores that municipalities do not practice systematic sterilization of stray cats.

Even if this call was only a dip in the water, the president of the association Femke Paulissen reiterates her request. The association would like to settle in a permanent building near Embrun for its central positioning in the Hautes-Alpes.

A request for an exemption from the prefect

“We are angry because we have been looking for a place for four years without result, we want to save the animals and continue our work, the ideal would be agricultural land with a building area for farm animals and a cattery,” she describes. .

The associations hope to gain a little time by arguing with the prefect of Hautes-Alpes, Dominique Dufour, that this expulsion would take place in the middle of winter.

In the meantime, the association intends to raise awareness of its cause by organizing garage sales to clear the building, such as at the Embrun market on Saturday December 21, in Eygliers on December 7 and 8. These two days will feature open days at the shelter.
