Two exceptional convoys transporting columns for the Arkema Carling factory, north of Saint-Avold, left the port of Frouard this Thursday morning, at 8:30 a.m.
Each convoy, weighing 295 tonnes, is towed and pushed by two 700-horsepower trucks. The whole thing measures a total of 67 meters long, 6.85 meters high and 5.30 meters wide.
Seventeen people are mobilized for these operations. In addition to the drivers, there are four pilot cars and four escort motorcycles. The trucks, with twenty axles per trailer, move slowly. This can occasionally lead to traffic jams.
A first night in Moyenvic
The two convoys will head towards Lay-Saint-Christophe, Essey-lès-Nancy, then Champenoux, before arriving tonight at Moyenvic, the stopover location. It will take them four days of driving to arrive at Saint-Avold, their final destination. The convoy is expected there on Monday evening.
Where will the convoys pass in Meurthe-et-Moselle
It took an hour from the port of Frouard to reach a roundabout in Champigneulles. At 11 a.m., the convoy arrived at the Eulmont roundabout, via the D322. The road to Essey-lès-Nancy was closed to facilitate its passage.
Departmental council officers are on hand along the route in case part of the road signs need to be dismantled, as is the case at this roundabout.
Two other columns will leave in convoy on December 9 from the port of Frouard, where they arrive by barge.
Columns to modernize the Arkema factory
These columns are part of the Arkema platform investment plan: these columns are used for the manufacture of acrylic acids. They are used in the composition of baby diapers in particular.
The modernization of the platform aims to reduce CO emissions2.
