The NGO France Nature environment has filed a complaint against the American giant for having widely communicated about its ecological ambitions which turn out to be false.
Did the Coca-Cola brand take advantage of the Paris Games to green its image? On the stands of the Olympic sites managed by the American giant, surprising scenes multiplied. Water or soda from small plastic bottles, not fountains, was poured into reusable cups. This system prompted the France Nature Environnement association to file a complaint. “Coca-Cola focused its communication before the Olympic Games around reducing packaging […] but without indicating that the drinks would come from plastic bottles“, denounces Axelle Gilver.
More than six million drinks were distributed and served using this process during the games. For its part, Coca-Cola acknowledges having used this process but claims to have limited its use. For Paris 2024, partner funding represented 1.2 billion euros, or more than a quarter of the total games budget.
