Emmanuel Macron launched, in June 2023, in , as part of the Neighborhoods 2030 Plan, the Neighborhoods of Tomorrow initiative, an international competition with the ambition of mobilizing innovation and architectural, urban and landscape excellence, to bring about resilient neighborhoods in terms of ecological transition in particular.

Ten districts were winners of this competition, including the Résidences Ardennes district, in Sedan, for which 35 teams of experts applied in order to imagine and propose a project for a new, completely redesigned district.

Details from Didier Herbillon, Mayor of Sedan, on Radio 8

Around fifty experts took part in a site visit this Tuesday, a non-obligatory visit which nevertheless attracted many professionals, coming from all over but also from Belgium and Luxembourg. The different teams now have until December 16 to position themselves in one of the 10 districts. Three teams will then be chosen, and will be funded by the State, to the tune of 150,000 euros per team, to submit a project by summer 2025.

The final project, out of the 3 proposed, will be chosen in November 2025, as Didier Herbillon explains

The icing on the cake is that the residents of the Résidences Ardennes district will participate in the choice of the winning project since the city will launch the creation of a citizens' jury of around twenty residents, who will choose 2 representatives to join the final jury. A great project therefore, which will “take shape” in the neighborhood itself.
