Driving around the city of Carcassonne (hears) with a electric scooter will now be strictly regulated. The municipality has decided to toughen up its tone. It will now be banned to use the sidewalks and of travel in the wrong direction. And that's not all.
During a specific press point, municipal elected officials announced that decisions would come into force in the coming days to regulate the use of these cars.

Wearing a helmet on these two-wheelers renowned for their speed, is ultimately not made obligatory.
Conversely, equipment such as the brakes, the fires front and rear, the horn as well as the reflective devices are now made mandatory.
Users of these scooters must now have 14 ans at a minimum.
Every vehicle in circulation must be insured. Otherwise, the user is liable to a fine of up to up to 3,750 euros. It will be strictly forbidden to circulate on the sidewalks and main squares of the Aude city.
Any user caught in the act of travel in the wrong direction in the streets of the city center. Speed is now limited to 10 km/h in the heart of the city and 25 km/h in all other districts.

The decision announced by the Aude municipality on Friday, November 22, follows the publication, several months ago by the city and road safety, of a practical guide for all motorized personal transport vehicles (edpm)
In the region, Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) announced, in May 2024, the implementation of a new Street Code. This document aims to provide a more global framework for traffic in the districts of the heart of the pink city between cars, pedestrians, scooters… et electric scooters.
Dissuasive fines
Violators of the rules in force will be exposed to fines, the amounts of which were revealed on Friday, November 22.
.. 11 euros: faulty braking system,
.. 35 euros: noted lack of mandatory equipment,
.. 35 euros: non-wearing of reflective equipment required in the event of nighttime traffic,
.. 135 euros: ban on driving with headphones on your ears,
.. 135 euros: ban on transporting several users on a single scooter,
.. 135 euros: ban on driving before turning 14,
.. 1500 euros: speeding observed,
.. 3750 euros: circulation without insurance.
The amounts are now known. The city has not yet specified the date these fines will come into force.
