The gendarmerie raided a locality in Vigneux-de-Bretagne, a town in Loire-Atlantique located northwest of Nantes, this Wednesday, November 27, after the discovery of the lifeless body of a newborn. A landowner was going around his ponds to make sure that the place had not suffered too much after the passage of the Caetano storm. It was at this time that he saw, a little after 11 a.m. as indicated by our colleagues from France 3 a very small shape in one of its bodies of water. It was a naked baby, its body stuck in the grass, on its stomach. The strong current of the stream, feeding the different bodies of water, suggests that the child could have been deposited elsewhere and then carried away.
An unfenced place
Sealed off, the sector – located just 500 meters from the Zad of Notre-Dame-des-Landes – was combed through by specialists from the criminal identification unit of the Loire-Atlantique group and by the river brigade. If the authorities remain extremely discreet about this matter, they must ensure that the mother is not in a delicate situation somewhere in this area, away from homes. This place is in fact unfenced and easily accessible.
Unidentified body
The investigation entrusted to the gendarmes of the Nantes research brigade also focuses on the identification of the small body and the causes of its death. Only an autopsy will be able to tell if he was alive at birth. The investigations are only just beginning.
