The Abdou Diouf International Conference Center (CICAD) brought together key players in the fight against HIV/AIDS for the 4th edition of the AIDS Scientific Days. Placed under the theme “Towards the elimination of AIDS: integration, innovation and impact”, this meeting was marked by rich discussions around the progress and challenges in the fight against this pandemic.

Ibrahima Sy, Minister of Health and Social Action, inaugurated the event on behalf of the President of the Republic, Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye, and the Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko. In his speech, he underlined Senegal’s renewed commitment to an inclusive and integrated response to AIDS.

The minister highlighted the National Strategic Plan 2023-2030, which aims for a multisectoral approach to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, viral hepatitis and sexually transmitted infections. This strategy is part of the broader framework of Senegal 2050, a visionary program focused on the development of human capital and social equity.

“Guaranteeing national sovereignty requires equitable access to health for all,” said Ibrahima Sy, emphasizing the importance of building a harmonized health system, capable of providing quality care while fighting against stigma.

Towards the elimination of AIDS: a national priority

The event also made it possible to magnify the efforts of the actors engaged in this fight, whether they come from civil society, the public sector or international partners. The objective is clear: eliminate AIDS by adopting innovative strategies, notably through the integration of health services and increased community participation.

The AIDS Scientific Days thus remind us that Senegal is resolutely committed to the battle against HIV, in an approach that is both inclusive and ambitious. However, to achieve elimination of the epidemic, sustained efforts, enhanced financing and strong political will remain necessary.

The call for synergy of stakeholders and collective mobilization is now launched, with the hope that by 2030, the fruits of these commitments will transform this ambition into reality.
