Contents this week: “Serial donor”, “Are the cars driving us crazy?”, “Titicaca, the lake is dying of thirst”.
Sperm, a rare and coveted commodity. You have to wait on average 15.5 months in France to benefit from a donation from an official structure, a Center for the Study and Conservation of Sperm (CECOS). There is a shortage of 800 donor candidates each year to meet the demand for medically assisted procreation (MAP). So, to go faster, some women go through a “sperm black market” on social networks. With or without sexual intercourse, they obtain the precious semen, but it is illegal. “Special Envoy” followed Maddy, who has already had two children thanks to a father recruited on Facebook. She talks about how easily she was able to get pregnant.
The journalists also organized a hidden camera donation session. In an oppressive climate, the donor multiplies the proposals for sexual relations. Some of these progenitors are “serial donors”. In France, the most famous of them is 65 years old and still donates sperm, while the limit is 45 years old in CECOS. And in the Netherlands, Jonathan Meijer would have 550 children! Convicted by the courts, he testifies to a form of addiction. For children, discovering that you were born thanks to an illegal donation is a shock. Sandrine leads the investigation to find her father. She was born to a clandestine serial donor in a gynecological practice, well before the social media revolution.
A report by Camille Aujames, Lucie Lemetais, Mateo Masnada and Mireille Huguet / Hikari.
It is a tragedy that moved the whole of France. In Paris, on October 15, a 27-year-old cyclist was crushed to death by a motorist following a trivial altercation. In big cities and in the countryside, the tension on the roads has never seemed so high.
For a refusal of priority, a parking space, or even a simple wave of the hand, violent reactions multiply. But how can we explain these behaviors? Why do even the calmest among us sometimes seem to transform behind the wheel? Are cars driving us crazy?
A report by Olivier Sibille, Mathieu Dreujou and Guillaume Marque.
Is the famous Lake Titicaca disappearing? This immense fresh water reserve, located at an altitude of 3,800 meters between Peru and Bolivia, is at its lowest level in seventy years. This cradle of Inca culture is facing an unprecedented drought.
For scientists, this catastrophe is caused by global warming and an unusual deficit of precipitation that the deforestation of the Amazon is accentuating. Bolivians living around the lake also face increasing water pollution and are forced to emigrate en masse to La Paz, the capital. “Special Envoy” went to meet these Andeans who are seeing the waters that once brought them wealth evaporate.
A report by Violaine Vermot-Gaud, Nolwenn Hervé and Mathilde Rougeron.
