Serious concern for the 300 employees of the Fonderie de Bretagne in Caudan in Morbihan

Strong concern again at the Fonderie de Bretagne which employs 310 people (290 employees on permanent contracts and around twenty on fixed-term contracts according to the unions) in Caudan in Morbihan. The Foundry has been manufacturing automobile parts mainly for Renault since 1966. According to the CGT, a majority of employees were on strike this Tuesday, November 26, 2024 while a consultation meeting is organized this Wednesday, November 27 between the State, Renault and the buyer , the German group, Private Assets. For the record, Renault resold the site to the Callista investment fund in 2022, which is reselling it today, with only one buyer in the pipeline.

Work until 2028

This Tuesday, November 26, there were a little more than 200 demonstrators in front of the site, in the presence of environmentalist deputy Damien Girard. They ask the government to put pressure on Renault and on the future buyer to ensure orders and work until 2028. The Macronist deputy Jean-Michel Jacques, for his part, announces a question to the government at the National Assembly this Wednesday 27 november.

A “unique” opportunity for Fabrice Loher

In a press release, Fabrice Loher, president of Agglomération and Mayor of Lorient and Minister Delegate for the Sea and Fisheries, believes that “The recovery plan proposed by Private Assets represents a unique opportunity. By diversifying activities towards renewable energies and other emerging sectors, it can make Fonderie de Bretagne a key player in European industry. However, this project ambitious requires a strong commitment from Renault, its historical client. The company must assume its responsibilities and support this transition to guarantee the sustainability of the site by maintaining its workload plan until 2028.”
