A municipal councilor from Kazabazua has been absent from the municipal council since February.

According to the Press, Craig Gabie has been in the Bahamas since this winter, missing several council meetings while continuing to receive his salary.

The municipality is said to have used a provision provided for in the law. The latter prevents the absences of an elected official from terminating his mandate.

Normally, an elected official must resign if he is absent for 90 days, but an additional 30-day period can be voted on.

The municipality indicated to La Presse that the elected official should be present at the council meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening.
