Doubs. Serial bicycle thefts in Besançon: four months in prison

Unfortunately, it’s commonplace. Always very unpleasant. Having your bike stolen happens to almost every cyclist. However, you should not forget to file a complaint because the police sometimes find the offender.

This is what happened with this thirty-year-old man from Besançon who was found thanks to video surveillance cameras. Investigators identified him because he often wore the same hooded sweater. They also ended up finding his accomplice, a man who was waiting for him not far from his crimes in a car.

Pliers found during search

The bicycles were stolen after the locks broke. Between March and October 2023, the suspect is suspected of having stolen five of them in Besançon, in the Boucle, not far from Place Leclerc or the Léo-Lagrange stadium.

The alleged thief was tried by the correctional chamber of the Besançon court on Monday 1is July, in his absence.

In police custody, this man known to the courts for thefts denied the obvious, recalls the representative of the public prosecutor. However, investigators found pliers for cutting anti-theft devices during a search of his home.

The court finally sentenced him to four months in prison. He will have to pay almost 2,000 euros in damages to the victims and other compensation for moral damages.
