The first round of the 2024 legislative elections saw the qualification of 3 candidates in the 8th constituency of Loire-Atlantique for the second round on Sunday July 7: Matthias Tavelcandidate of the New Popular Front, received 30.99% of the votes cast, followed by Gauthier Bouchet (National Rally) with 28.87%, then Audrey Dufeu with 20.28%. In the end, only two will be running for parliament next Sunday.

No voting instructions

The announcement of a three-way race had prompted reactions from elected officials and citizens alike, calling on the Macronist candidate to withdraw in order to block the RN. A petition launched online had gathered more than 2,000 votes in less than 24 hours. She finally announced her withdrawal at the end of the day, without giving her voters any clear voting instructions. “I want to thank the citizens of the 8th constituency of Loire-Atlantique who voted for me in the first round. Thanks to them, my score allowed me to stay in office on July 7. I am certain that today I represent republican democracy in our territory. I am proud to have brought together more than 12,000 voters during this first round of the legislative elections and to have carried in their name the values of liberty, equality, fraternity and secularism. Since Sunday evening, the climate of political violence in the constituency and harassment against me has only increased. It is like the two candidates who came out on top in this three-way race, the departmental delegate of the National Rally and the former chief of staff of Jean-Luc Mélenchon. My victory is only possible on the condition of the total support of the democratic and republican forces in the constituency that I have been calling for since the beginning of this legislative campaign. I deplore the capitulation of local elected officials who did not want to join the republican arc that I proposed and did not allow the conditions for unity to be created. Therefore, I announce this Tuesday, July 2, my withdrawal from this 2024 legislative election. I am certain that my voters, whom I thank very sincerely, will know how to make the best choice of vote next Sunday. says Audrey Dufeu.
