From July 3, 2024 to April 27, 2025, Michel Gondry’s “The Amateur Film Factory” arrives in Marseille at the Château de la Buzine.
The Amateur Movie Factory is a participatory, inclusive and free experience aimed at the general public of Marseille, families, school groups or people with disabilities.

This traveling experience has already brought together 60,000 participants and 2 million visitors in 17 cities around the world such as Paris, New York, Tokyo, Rotterdam, Moscow, Cannes, Casablanca, Sao Paulo, Montreal and Buenos Aires.

But what is it about?

In the style of Jack Black and Mos Def in the movie “Be Kind Rewind”, The Amateur Film Factory invites you to create a film from A to Z, collectively, and in record time (3 hours!).

No training is required, the goal is to have fun making your own film.

A set of scenery and machinery, simulating both interiors and exteriors offer the possibility of shooting an infinite number of stories. All necessary equipment is made available so that you are independent.

After an initial tour of the sets, you take action: from writing the script and choosing the actors to filming and creating the special effects “cobbled together” on location.

Three hours later, you leave the factory with your film in your pocket.

The Château de la Buzine in brief

Built in 1867 and acquired in 1941 by Marcel Pagnol, “My mother’s castle” has been, since 1995, property of the City of Marseille. Emblematic, this place has lived a tormented destiny. After having known the brilliance of happy days, when it welcomed all the names that the region had in terms of art and cinema, The Second World War put an end to Marcel Pagnol’s project, which was to create there a city of cinema.

Located in the heart of a valley between Saint-Menet and Les Camoins, between the hills and the Huveaune valley, in the 11th arrondissement of Marseille, the Château de la Buzine is part of a chain of castles and beautiful residences that tell part of the history of the city and its inhabitants. It is to Henry de Buzens, noble owner of the estate in the 17th century, that the estate owes its name.

Now completely rehabilitated, the Buzine is part of a civic and cultural development.
