At around 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, four hooded and armed men entered the Orange store in Ambérieu and carried out a lightning robbery in broad daylight in front of numerous customers and passers-by in the Arcades district.
“They took an employee with their weapon to have a door opened”
Armed with handguns according to witnesses, they threatened the full-time security guard on site as well as the employees of the phone store. “They took an employee with their gun to have a door opened and they went to get the new phones behind. They filled a big bag,” reported this customer, still shaken by the scene a few minutes after the incident.
The car trunk is not properly closed
Once the big bag was full, shouting to passers-by to get out, the four men hastily loaded their theft into the trunk of the white Renault Clio parked a stone’s throw away on Place du 8-Mai-1945 and the vehicle sped off, the poorly closed trunk door opening in the process.
The vehicles and motorcycles of the gendarmes, who were quite numerous in the area at that time, were quick to intervene and launch pursuits with the reports of the numerous witnesses.
This same store has already been the target of several armed hold-ups and burglaries in a few years.
