In Nice, Jewish children insulted next to their school

This Monday, schoolchildren were insulted by two men near their Jewish school in Nice. The security guard in charge of the school’s security tried to intervene and was violently attacked.

A new anti-Semitic act. On Monday, July 1, schoolchildren at a Jewish school in Nice were verbally assaulted by two men. Faced with these insults, the security guard in charge of the school’s security intervened. The two attackers then beat him up after throwing glass projectiles at him.

A witness to the scene recounts: “I was sitting eating and I have a friend of mine who is in charge of security at the Jewish school that was just behind me. He was bleeding in the middle of the road. He was being beaten up by two guys so I intervened to try to separate everyone a little bit,” he testifies.

“They were targeted because they were Jews”

A new attack of an anti-Semitic nature according to a police officer: “They were easily identifiable since they had kippas so they were targeted because they were Jewish. Without the intervention of the security guard, we could have feared the worst,” explains Laurent Alcaraz, member of the Alliance Police 6 union.

The scene allegedly took place along a children’s park. A place that is not well frequented according to residents: “It is not well frequented, there are bad company. They steal phones and throw them in the bushes and there are also drug addicts from time to time so it is no longer really a garden for children unfortunately”, says a mother. The Nice prosecutor’s office announced the opening of an investigation into the crime of aggravated violence based on the victim’s religion and public insults based on religion.

In May, Gabriel Attal announced that “366 anti-Semitic acts” had been recorded in France in the first quarter of 2024. A figure that has increased by 300% compared to the first three months of the previous year.
