With 36% of the votes, Gerald Darmanin came out on top in the first round of early legislative elections in the 10th constituency of the North. The Minister of the Interior is only two points ahead of Bastien Verbrugghe, candidate for the National Rally, and the Insoumise Leslie Mortreux who won less than 25% of the vote to represent the New Popular FrontThe latter announced her withdrawal on Monday July 1, the day after the results of the vote.

She calls for not voting for the RN

“With only 837 votes separating Gérald Darmanin from the Rassemblement National candidate and in accordance with the commitments made by our movement, I have decided to withdraw from the second round of the legislative election.”she said in a statement. She also calls “not to vote for the National Rally” during the second round of the election.

The day after the first round, more than 150 candidates from the left or the presidential majority have already announced that they will withdraw before the third round in order to block the National Rally. According to a provisional count by AFP, they are all candidates involved in three-way races and most of them came in third place in constituencies where the RN is in a position to win on Sunday, July 7. Among them are three ministers: Sabrina Agresti-RoubacheMarie Guévenoux and Fadila Khattabi.
