Providing products that contribute to food sovereignty while respecting an environmental policy that takes into account the scarcity of water resources. This is the challenge that the OCP group has set itself, in particular with the use of wastewater and desalinated water to operate all its structures.

«Currently, 85% of the water used in phosphate mines comes from water from wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and from seawater desalination, with almost 80% of this water being recycled. the magazine says Finances News Hebdo. Not forgetting the significant contribution of the pipeline transporting phosphates from Khouribga to Jorf Lasfar, allowing a saving of three million cubic meters of water and almost a million tons of CO2.

In addition, in the phosphate transformation processes at the Jorf Lasfar and Safi platforms, the steam generated by the production of sulfuric acid is reused to produce clean electricity, representing no less than 20% of the energy used. Added to this is the use of wind energy and the solar program in regions such as Benguerir, Khouribga, Mascala and Youssoufia. This entire approach is part of a major objective: achieving carbon neutrality by 2040.

OCP also provides treated water via seawater treatment and desalination plants to cities severely affected by water stress such as Safi and El Jadida. “It should be noted that the only recourse for a city like Safi is the water treated and supplied by OCP. This seawater goes through a clean desalination process, using renewable energies, and a pioneering technology that consists of filtering seawater with ceramic filters instead of sand filters,” we still read. Marrakech and Casablanca will also be served during the summer of 2024.
