In Strasbourg, this discreet Chinese restaurant takes us off the beaten track

In 2021, the Sichuan restaurant took up residence on the rue du Fossé des Tanneurs in Strasbourg. Ambassador of a fragrant cuisine, typical of southwest China, the establishment has won over the Chinese community, but also those looking for traditional dishes with strong flavors. We share with you some information about this restaurant, its growing team, and its new menu that has just been created.

Sichuan, that’s the name of this discreet restaurant with around sixty seats located a few steps from the Place de l’Homme-de-Fer.

With her sober and elegant decorationthe establishment offers an overview of traditional sichuan cuisineknown (among others) for its character and the use of many spices in his preparations.

But beware, character doesn’t necessarily mean plenty of chilli or pepper! Sichuan cuisine is also rich in surprises and little-known flavors.

A fragrant, complex and tasty cuisine that goes off the beaten track

Situated at the crossroads of many influences, Sichuan cuisine draws its secrets from different neighboring countries and regions.

Initially popular and relatively simple, It has become more complex over the last century to become one of the richest and most varied in East Asia.

Smoking, fermentation, varied cooking techniques, generous seasoning and using thousands of herbs and spices, the flavors are sharp and the palate really travels.

It is on these paths, through dishes that reflect true culinary identitieswhich the Sichuan team wants to bring us, notably thanks to some very nice new features added very recently to the menu.

A strengthened team and a new map to go even further

For a few days now, there has been something new at Sichuan. The first detail, which is not one, is that orders are now made via an iPad, which allows customers to visualize exactly what they are going to eat thanks to photos that make them want to eat. It’s really simple, but it’s really effective for making up your mind.

Then, in order to bring its know-how, A second chef has just joined the team to bring his techniques and experience to the creation of new dishes. Now, we have a proposal reflecting pure Sichuan cuisineand another, drawing inspiration from other Chinese culinary cultures.

On the menu, among other things, we find: pork ribs in sweet and sour sauce; chicken or beef in the chef’s sauce; How to eat spring or summer ; chicken curry or lemongrass; Peking duck ; beef hot pot; ravioli; marinated shrimp or vegetables, shrimp omelettesbreaded chicken or duck; grilled beef with chili or the famous whole fish (which we strongly recommend).

Ultimately, whether or not you like chili, sweet and sour, fried, steamed or grilled meats, The menu allows everyone to make real taste discoveries that reflect true Sichuan cuisine.

Some will choose not to get too involved with simple, tasty and well-prepared dishesand others will opt for more expressive and daring dishes that shake up the palate a little more.

We’re not going to hide it from you, we loved the dishes we tasted, especially the fish served whole, whose cooking, sauce and powerful flavors really won us over.

In addition, which is rare these days, The prices are really reasonable and some dishes start around €10 or €11you can go there with your eyes closed!
