This Sunday, June 30, 2024, voters of the 2nd constituency of the Rhône which includes the 1st and 4th arrondissements of Lyon and part of the 2nd and 9th had the choice between eleven candidates to elect their next MP.

These are Boris Tavernier (Ecologists – New Popular Front) and Loïc Terrenes (Renaissance) who will be decided in the second round of the legislative elections on July 7.

Boris Tavernier in a very favorable position

As a reminder, voters in the 2nd constituency of the Rhône had to choose between Boris Tavernier, nominated by the Popular Front, Anaëlle Bisleau, National Rally candidate, Loïc Terrenes (Renaissance) and Maryll Guilloteau, Les Républicains candidate.

Hubert Julien-Laferrière, the outgoing Green MP who is the subject of a judicial investigation into suspicions of corruption by foreign powers, was not a candidate for re-election and instead chose to devote himself to his passion for great apes. Nathalie Perrin-Gilbert, a candidate on the left, withdrew in favour of the Popular Front candidate.

Boris Tavernier came out on top in the polls in the 2nd constituency of the Rhône on Sunday, June 30, with 49.65% of the vote. He narrowly missed out on an election in the first round, like his colleague Marie-Charlotte Garin in the 3rd constituency.

The Renaissance candidate who tried his luck again for these partial legislative elections is in clear difficulty, collecting only 25.12%. Anaëlle Bisleau (RN) and Maryll Guilloteau (LR) are eliminated. Their electorates can constitute a small reservoir of votes for the Macronist candidate.

“The results are chilling”

Like the mayor of Lyon, Grégory Doucet, Boris Tavernier believes that the national scores are “chilling”.

“The results of this Sunday evening are chilling. We have brought about the new popular front, now we are calling for the creation of a new republican front. I am calling for the withdrawal of the NFP candidates in 3rd position in all the constituencies where the RN is in the lead,” demands the candidate, the new face of the ecologists in Lyon.

Loïc Terrenes is pleased that the RN is “eliminated” in the second round. He calls for “the rallying of all republican and democratic forces, to oppose the dogmatism that reigns in Lyon and to make order and the values of the Republic win, next Sunday, without ambiguity or compromise.”
