Besides the 1is round of legislative elections on Sundaythe weekend of June 29 and 30 was also marked by the 552e editing Jeanne-Hachette Holidays in Beauvais (Oise). While many Beauvaisians attended this event, other guests wanted to join in the party.

A swarm of bees has, in fact, taken up residence at the bottom of a low wall in front of Saint-Pierre Cathedral. “We received a lot of calls early Saturday afternoon because, before landing, the swarm was circling around and celebrating”explains Sandra Plomion, deputy mayor in charge of security.

Enough to create a certain amount of concern among local residents, especially given the number: nearly 30,000 recorded! But “Don’t panic. They weren’t aggressive at all.then supports Sandra Plomion. The premises were quickly secured with the municipal police and marked out. »

“It was important to act quickly”

However, it was necessary to determine whether they were bees, wasps or hornets to know what to do next: if the fire brigade was first contacted, this type of intervention does not fall within their competence since it can be carried out by competent professionals.

It was in a rather unusual place that the beekeeper had to dislodge them on Saturday June 29 (© Sandra Plomion).

“It was important to act quickly before they took up residence in the low wall. That would have made it more complicated to dislodge them.”underlines the security assistant who experienced these events ” for the first time “.

So two beekeepers went there and it was the second, based in Beauvaisiswho managed to recover “small pollinators and essential to biodiversity” in just 15 minutes. The bees being thus preserved, it is impossible to have the bumblebee after this story.

If you ever notice a bee nest in your home, you should call a beekeeper who will collect the swarm. You can contact your local town hall for contact details or on the internet.
