This Saturday, June 29, the prestigious cycling competition departed from Florence, marking the start of three weeks of intense races which will end with a time trial between Monaco and Nice on July 21. For the occasion, Prince Albert II was on hand.

A great enthusiast of sporting competitions, the Sovereign was in Florence for the start of the Grande Boucle. A presence also justified by the hosting of the last stage of the competition in the Principality on July 21. Stage that Monaco had already hosted in 2009, this time, for the big start of the race

From Italy, the Prince spoke at the microphone of Monaco Info : « It’s always a pleasure to be here, to feel this extraordinary atmosphere around the big start of the Tour de France. Here in Florence, not only is the temperature warm and the atmosphere great, it’s a pleasure to be here.

This is the start, but as we know the last stage will leave from our home, from Monaco to go to Nice and it is a great link between Italy, Monaco and France. Keeping this friendship alive through sport is great.

Many of the athletes in the peloton are Monegasque residents so we hope to have residents on the podium! Long live cycling and long live friendship through sport! ».
