In Brest, the permit for the new stadium finally submitted

An important step towards the construction of the new Stade Brestois 29 enclosure at Froutven, in Guipavas (29), has just been taken. The building permit was submitted on Friday June 28, 2024 in Brest Métropole. It will be subject to a public inquiry which should be launched in the first half of 2025.

A 30-year-old sea serpent, seriously reactivated six years ago, the 15,000-seat stadium will also house workspaces to accommodate club employees, catering for supporters as well as lounges and boxes for partners on match nights. The stadium has also been designed to live outside of its peak times. Among the services that will be offered: a 3,000 m² indoor leisure area, catering, a crèche, an escape game and even outdoor thrilling leisure activities. The SB29 shop will move there to join a club museum. Finally, an auditorium and a business center will be dedicated to welcoming companies.

Appeals probably filed

According to our information, the elements submitted correspond to those presented to elected officials at the beginning of June. Exit the gateway, for reasons of too high cost. Planned at one time, it was to allow tram users to cross the D205, between Leroy Merlin and Ikea, towards the stadium.

The budget, which combines private and public funding, has therefore been completed, as announced by the Le Saint brothers a few weeks ago. In June 2023, the investment was announced at €106.50 million, including €27 million in direct public subsidies. According to our information, the vote of €10 million (€3 million in 2025 and €7 million in 2026) from Brest Métropole, during the last council meeting on February 2, 2024, made it possible to unlock the level of commitment of other local authorities. The Brittany Region would contribute €8 million. For its part, the department of Finistère would have planned €6 million which would be drawn from the envelope for very large projects of departmental and regional interest (€40 million over the mandate).

The stadium’s delivery date is still scheduled for the last quarter of 2027. But everything will probably depend on the appeals that one or more associations, possibly a local resident, who oppose the project, might file.
