The 2,100 inhabitants of Mirebeau, north of Poitiers (Vienna) largely placed the National Rally in the lead in the first round of the 2024 legislative elections. Sunday June 30, Emmanuelle Darles won nearly 45 % votes, or 15 points more than in the rest of the 1st constituency of Vienne. It is also 18 points more than during the first round of the 2022 legislative elections. Many voters therefore chose to turn to the National Rally for the first time.

The RN came first in the first round of the 2024 legislative elections in Mirebeau

From left to far right

On Sunday, Patrick reached the milestone “I think we need change, so we’ll see what happens afterwards” justifies this retiree who usually votes left. “I was not far right, I already voted left but now that has to change”. On Sunday, Patrick explains that he felt “fooled” by the political figures who have succeeded one another in power. I have a small pension. €1175 exactly. You have to be able to live with it! I never have enough at the end of the month.”laments this former employee in the food industry who started working at the age of 14.

“It’s a test”

On the other side of the main square of Mirebeau, Béatrice looks around for her granddaughter who is leaving the town’s primary school. She also tells us that she chose the National Gathering on Sunday. “We get fed up. After a while, we think we might as well change everything.”she whispers.

Immigration: “we are not affected”

“After all, it’s only for two years. Afterwards, there are the presidential elections, so we will see what they are capable of doing, it’s a test”wants to believe this retired trader who says she is convinced by Jordan Bardella’s program. Purchasing power, respect for our police, it’s important!”lists Béatrice. However, she acknowledges that she does not feel concerned by all of the RN’s proposals. “The security of a small town like Mirebeau is fine, we’re not too bothered. And then after immigration, we here are not too affected”she admits.

Abstention, a key factor

If the RN has such high scores in Mirebeau, it is also because many residents like Frédéric abstained. “I don’t vote because they’re all penguins, they all come from the same school. Look, they rallied around each other. Look at Eric Ciotti: he criticized Le Pen, now he has rallied with Le Pen. SO These are not people who are frank Frederic laments.

Sunday July 7, his voter card will remain safely stored in his drawer. Like him, 30% of those registered did not come to the 1st roundr legislative elections in Mirebeau, three points more than the national average.
