Press release from Mr. Joé Bédier

Results of the first round of legislative elections in Reunion
Mayor of Saint-André and President of the UDSA

I would first like to express my great satisfaction with the results of the candidates I supported in Saint-André in the 5th and 6th constituencies, that is to say, respectively,

Mr. Jean-Hugues Ratenon and Mr. Frédéric Maillot, who both came out on top in the first round of these legislative elections despite a difficult local and national context.

One of the lessons that we can note from this first round of elections is that division within the political family does not contribute to giving visibility and coherence to our voters. The results clearly show in the 5th and 6th constituency that a single candidacy around the Popular Front program would have allowed us to finish in the first round with an even greater lead.

Nevertheless, it is a first victory and as President of the UDSA and also the first magistrate of the commune, I note that the candidate supported by my political opposition was eliminated in the first round despite an active campaign in the 5th constituency.

The objective is not to municipalize this election but the work undertaken in the service of the Saint-André population continues today serenely.

This election is a major issue for our territory and it is the duty of all of us to mobilize in the second round for the benefit of candidates Jean-Hugues Ratenon and Frédéric Maillot. It is a question of preserving the interests of the people of Reunion and our unique model of living together. Our candidates have shown that they are fully committed to the rights of the people of Reunion.

We must therefore unite against the extreme right which does not uphold our Reunion values or our morals.

I am counting on your mobilization this Sunday, July 7, so that our candidates triumph.

Joé Bédier
Mayor and President of the UDSA
