A first largely positive assessment for the Documentary Meetings, despite the weather

This Monday, July 1st, the documentary “Françoise Hardy, an icon”, closes the curtain of the Rencontres Documentaires 2024 edition, at the Le Dôme Congress Center, in Carcassonne. It is already time for the first assessment for Laurence Gasc, creator of the event.

Against all odds, or almost, the Documentary Meetings succeeded in their 2024 edition. Fully integrated into the program of the Festival Off de la Cité de Carcassonne, the three evenings were full, and at the time of the first assessment, Laurence Gasc, creator of these meetings, has a smile. “All three evenings had been sold out for a long time. For a capacity of 500 spectators, it’s excellentshe rejoices. The Meetings have found their audience, and people are still discovering them.” And to add: “In connection with the context, the 500 people did not come to each evening, even if all the tickets were reserved. We had rain on Saturday, the elections on Sunday, and this Monday, it was windy…” The latter also wanted to point out that all the tickets for the documentary on Françoise Hardy had been sold before her disappearance. “It shows how attached people were to her. She represented a lot of things, and with her death on June 11, this film became a tribute full of emotion”she continues.

“I thought that this setting in the Cité was perfect for this documentary on Françoise Hardy. But the weather decided otherwise, and the main thing is to still screen it, because we owe her this tribute.says Mireille Dumas, director of the documentary. This is the first time that we have broadcast it since its disappearance, not counting the passage of France 2 the same evening. Also proof that the “Rencontres” manage to screen quality documentaries: the one broadcast this Saturday, June 29, on the life of Brigitte Bardot, will be broadcast on Canal + for the 90th anniversary of “BB” next September. A success that pushes Laurence Gasc to think beyond 2024: “Will the Documentary Meetings return next year? Of course we’ll be there. With the good weather, we hope so!”
