The final results of the early legislative elections fell shortly after 10 p.m. this Sunday June 30, 2024 for the 8e Loire-Atlantique constituency, confirming the first trends: Matthias Tavel comes first, followed by Gauthier Bouchet and D‘Audrey Dufeuin a three-way race that no one expected. And which somewhat confused the reactions and calls for votes. This Monday, 1is July, positions become clearer.
“Blocking the RN”… not to mention the Popular Front
By announcing the results of his commune, Saint-Nazaire, the mayor David Samzun called for “a direct barrier to the National Rally by using the ballot paper which remains available”.
The risk of having a National Front MP is extremely high […] Above all, tomorrow morning Mr. Gauthier Bouchet must not be able to represent us on the one hand for the 8th constituency, on the other hand to bring an absolute majority to the assembly.
A few minutes later, in front of the press, Xavier Perrin also called for blocking the National Rally. Without pronouncing the names of Matthias Tavel or the New Popular Front. In a press release sent in the evening, he reiterates. With his analysis of the result of the first round.
At the national level, the Left comes out weakened, with the risk of having fewer deputies than Emmanuel Macron’s movement. This is the consequence of a Parisian agreement, which favored outgoing deputies, without taking into account the vote in the European elections. A useful electoral agreement would have consisted of choosing those best placed to win. Here, I am proud to have offered a clear choice in the first round.
For Matthias Tavel, whether or not the socialist candidate pronounces his name has little importance. “I take all the support wherever they come from and some ways they express themselves.”
It is possible to win this constituency, to keep a left-wing MP […]But the mobilization must be even stronger and push even harder for the camp of the social republic to win.
Audrey Dufeu’s appeal to the voters of Xavier Perrin and Florence Beuvelet
No doubt both of them then thought that facing Gauthier Bouchet, there would be two ballots available. Only here: Audrey Dufeu, arrival 3e with 20.28% of the votes, decides to maintain your candidacy in the second round, considering her “the only one in the democratic arc” and “beyond the parties”.
On Sunday evening, she launched an appeal to the voters of Xavier Perrin and Florence Beuvelet. The next day, during a press conference, she confirmed and wanted to “clarify” her continued support.
I have been hearing a little music in the last few hours, which would like to cast doubt on the legitimacy of my candidacy. Should I withdraw for Mr. Tavel, who represents what I have fought for years? No.
She thus criticises the NFP candidate, the outgoing MP, for “not having a track record, apart from shouting from the benches of the assembly his hatred of institutions. I have a track record”.
The clarification of David Samzun and Xavier Perrin
At the same time as Audrey Dufeu’s press conference, two press releases were sent simultaneously: a statement by David Samzun, another by Xavier Perrin. Both clarify their positions by clearly calling for a vote for “the LFI-New Popular Front candidate”, “the best placed to act as a barrier”, believes the mayor of Saint-Nazaire.
The logic of the Republican Front requires the withdrawal of the candidacy of Audrey Dufeu, who came third far behind the candidate of the Popular Front. This is also the national slogan of her party.
This is also the case for the Radical Party of the Left, which called for a vote for Xavier Perrin in the first round.
Upon hearing the news, Audrey Dufeu, distinguishing the Nazairian elected officials from their electorate. “The vote reserves don’t belong to anyone,” she says.
