NÎMES After ten years of closure, the Meynier de Salinelles park reopens its doors

It is a victory for the residents of the Gambetta-Révolution neighborhood committee. This Monday morning, the new Meynier park in Salinelles was inaugurated with great fanfare. In total: seven hectares of greenery with games for children and sports course.

This park has attracted a lot of attention… During the last municipal elections, it even fueled the campaign. The Departmental Council, then chaired by Denis Bouad, wanted to sell the site to a developer with the blessing of the city of Nîmes. This was without counting on the mobilization of local residents, eager to preserve and renovate their green setting.

This morning, many departmental elected officials – from other cantons of Gard – as well as the mayor of Nîmes, Jean-Paul Fournier, accompanied by several of his deputies came to inaugurate this “ public park department “. At the helm: the new president Françoise Laurent-Perrigot: ” It is the rebirth of a place of life and conviviality… This site has been owned by the Department since 1880! »

It took a little less than a million euros to renovate this seven-hectare park. Access was secured with the installation of a fence and a monumental entrance gate signed by the ironworker Molinelli. The green spaces have been cleaned and the lighting refurbished. A wooden theater has been created with fun and sporting facilities: bowling, ping-pong table and other wooden games with motor skills equipment for seniors.

A park that aims to bring generations together. At the entrance, a pavilion will house the two park keepers, open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. from April to September and from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from October to March.
