A 4-year-old child was knocked down by a car during a wedding in Cannes (Alpes-Maritime). The driver, who fled before surrendering, was taken into police custody.
A wedding that turns into a tragedy. This Saturday, June 29, around 9:15 p.m., a 4-year-old child died after being hit by a car on the Chemin de la Bastide Rouge in the La Bocca district of Cannes (Alpes-Maritime).
The child escaped the supervision of his mother who was in the party room where the wedding meal was taking place. According to BFMTV, the driver called the police to tell them the facts. He then said he could not stay there for fear of being attacked by the crowd that had gathered around the accident. He was arrested in the evening in Roquette-sur-Siagne (Alpes-Maritimes) in front of his home where he was waiting for the police.
Negative alcohol and drug tests
Despite emergency services, the child was pronounced dead on site. Four witnesses in shock were treated. Two of them were transported to Cannes hospital after having “ discomfort following knowledge of the death », according to Sdis 06 cited by Le Parisien. These are members of the victim’s family.
Placed in police custody at the Cannes police station, the man underwent alcohol and drug tests which proved negative. An investigation has been opened.
