Spain’s victory against Georgia last night (4-1) in the round of 16 of Euro 2024 in Germany is synonymous with the end of the historic journey of the Georgian selection. A surprise team in the competition for its first participation in an international tournament, Willy Sagnol’s men have won over all of Europe, like Messin George Mikautadze, top scorer in the Euro and highly coveted player in the summer transfer window.

FC Metz’s biggest file could accelerate in the coming days. Indeed, at the time of writing, striker Georges Mikautadze is still under contract with the Moselle club. However, as he himself announced, the provisional top scorer of Euro 2024 (3 goals) will not play for the Garnets, who are relegated to Ligue 2, and will therefore leave this summer. Moreover, the Georgian specified that it is in Ligue 1 that he will continue his career next year. And since this speech on social networks, many rumors around L1 clubs at the top of the ranking have followed in the race for the one who scored 13 goals in half a season last year. Thus, RC Lens, Stade Rennais, Olympique Lyonnais, Olympique de Marseille, AS Monaco and a few other teams to a lesser extent have been associated with Mikautadze in recent days. If the Messin scorer’s file has made a lot of noise since the start of the transfer window, it should find its epilogue soon.

Georgia eliminated, Mikautadze transferred?

Georgia’s defeat last night against Spain (4-1) at Euro 2024 means elimination for the Crusaders, and the end of a heroic run for the Georgian team’s first international competition. During these four historic matches, two men stood out to the point of being named in the typical team of the group stage. There is obviously goalkeeper Giorgi Mamadarchvili, still very good yesterday, despite the four goals conceded, and of course Georges Mikautadze, the most decisive player at Euro 2024 with 3 goals and 1 assist. The center forward’s statistics are a godsend for FC Metz, who will be able to raise the bids with interested clubs. Estimated at 15 million euros by Transfermarkt, the Georgian’s performances will certainly increase the prices surrounding the player’s departure. And now that the striker is no longer involved in the Euro, his transfer should take place in the coming days. According to the latest rumors, AS Monaco seems to be the closest to Mikautadze, even if nothing has been done at the moment.

But now that the 23-year-old is out of the Euros, he will be able to focus on his personal situation, and certainly wants to settle the question of his future club in the coming days, before being able to enjoy a well-deserved vacation, and definitively launch the FC Metz transfer window.
