Will Constance de Pélichy (DVD) succeed in closing the gap on Mathilde Paris (RN) in the 3rd constituency of Loiret?

Three candidates qualified for the second round, Sunday June 30. The outgoing MP RN Mathilde Paris was, unsurprisingly, placed in the lead. Constance de Pélichy (DVD), in second place, hopes to take advantage of the withdrawal of Clément Verde (LFI/New Popular Front).

In an ocean of satisfaction, there would almost be disappointment. Mathilde Paris, outgoing National Rally (RN) MP, is in the lead, Sunday June 30th at the end of the first round of the legislative elections. “It’s not a surprise,” admit political actors from all walks of life.

11,000 more RN voters than two years ago

With 45.5% of the votes, her score is fifteen points higher in the first round of the 2022 elections. The former elected official gathered almost 11,000 more voters, also benefiting from a greater mobilization (+ 18 points).

However, she has not yet regained her place in the National Assembly. Between the applause of her supporters, gathered at the bowling alley in Saint-Père-sur-Loire, the “Mathilde” chanted by her entourage, the outgoing MP reminded her loved ones “that we must go back to campaign today”. Her opponent is Constance de Pélichy, whom Mathilde Paris describes as “a hidden Macronist”.

“I call on voters who did not choose my candidacy in the first round to switch to mine to block Macron.”

“Local anchoring has its effect”

Facing her, therefore, is the only candidate aligned by the right and the centre (supported by LR and the UDI), Constance de Pélichy (32.04%). “I came out on top in almost all the communes of Portes de Sologne, it’s proof that local roots are having an effect”, rejoiced the mayor of La Ferté-Saint-Aubin at the start of the evening, while noting her clear delay in the east of the constituency.

She wants to be combative:

Constance de Pélichy at the central polling station of her stronghold, the town of La Ferté-Saint-Aubin.
“I am determined to be on the ground night and day. The issue of bringing down the RN from the constituency is fundamental, it is the meaning of my candidacy. I am very sensitive to the very clear line decreed by the New Front popular. This is what allows us to maintain hope.

Constance de Pélichy (Various right-wing candidate)

A mathematically possible bet, but Mathilde Paris’s lead will be very difficult to absorb: the DVD candidate would have to recover all the left-wing votes, or mobilize the last abstainers!

The withdrawal of the left

The first of the two options may be the way to go. The parachuted Clément Verde (LFI) qualified with a good score (19.36%, 3,000 votes more than his predecessor Kévin Merlot), before withdrawing, following national instructions.

He believed that “we should not give a vote to the National Rally. We must make sure to beat them”. The PS, for its part, openly called for a vote for Constance de Pélichy in this constituency. They have seven days left to turn the tide.
