Another subject that divided the municipal council on Thursday evening was the revision of the rates for occupying public property for terraces and terrace extensions, which will come into effect from Monday, July 1, 2024.

The modernization and beautification work has been completed at Place Madeleine and an increase in the high season rates for public property occupancy for terraces and terrace extensions is planned from this Monday, July 1. The prices are revised as follows:
– High season prices for ordinary category 2 terrace: €14 per m² instead of €11 per m² currently
– High season rate for category 2 terrace extension: €17 per m² instead of €13 per m² currently.
This revaluation makes it possible to be in line with the new operating framework proposed by the community to traders in the Madeleine district.
Carole Bernhard, from the group “Pour Beaune Vraiment” denounced ” the significant 30% increase in prices, applicable from this Monday morning. Restaurant owners will be delighted after this mediocre start to the season, where the terraces did not bring in as much as expected ” She stressed that this increase “ affects all restaurateurs and cafe owners, not just those at Place Madeleine “, seeing it as a punishment” while this embellishment was long awaited “For Alain Suguenot, Mayor of Beaune, this increase is justified because the City has invested more than a million euros in these beautification works. “ In addition, terraces contribute positively to the turnover of traders and it is very quickly amortized – in the order of a few days “, he added.
The vote ended with two abstentions.
