2024 legislative elections in Tarn-et-Garonne: Brigitte Barèges wants to “succeed in the union of the rights”

Tired but happy, Brigitte Barèges closed this first round evening at around 9:30 p.m. at the Montauban town hall by calling for a rally between the two rounds. Figures and results tables in hand, she followed with great caution the evolution of the scores in the first constituency of Tarn-et-Garonne where she is running under the label “Union of the Far Right”. If her position as number 1 on the evening of this first round was very quickly apparent, it was the score of the candidate “Ensemble” Catherine Simonin-Benazet that crystallized the attention of Brigitte Barèges’ entourage: qualified or not for the second round? Triangular or duel? Finally, the candidate of the presidential party did not reach the 11,676 votes that would have allowed her to participate in the second round and thus freeze the scores achieved on June 30.

With almost 44% of the votes, Brigitte Barèges is seven points ahead of Valérie Rabault “Union of the Left” offering voters in Tarn-et-Garonne a remake of the 2012 match where the socialist won. “Valérie Rabault is a tough adversary that I respect. But I criticize her for moving forward in disguise with the Nupes and France Insoumise. Faced with this amalgamation proposed by the left with people who have nothing to do together, I continue to “Call for the union of the rights. We really need to come together before this second round to succeed in uniting the rights. I am appealing to all the voters who want to restore order in this country.”

At city hall, this evening of the first round, it was a bit like two rooms, two atmospheres. In the blue room, the country buffet attracted a good number of municipal elected officials and supporters of Brigitte Barèges who commented on the national results broadcast on a loop by the channel CNews. In the reception room next door, the questions and positions were more focused on local issues. “I am delighted with the very good score achieved outside of Montauban and I am also happy to see that the Montalbanais responded.” Brigitte Barèges thinks (again) of Tarn-et-Garonne before imagining herself in Paris.
