According to the gendarmes' investigation, the product is a biocide used for facade renovations.

But what is this whitish substance which spilled into the Hérault river, near the commune of Val d'Aigoual, this Sunday, November 24? In any case, this is the question that challenged the gendarmes of the Vigan company. Around noon, they were called for an unidentified substance. After an investigation, they found that the liquid came from a building being renovated by a company. The latter would have mandated a subcontractor to carry out the facade renovation. But for a reason still unknown, with the last rains, the product used flowed from the walls to end up in the sewers, then to the Hérault river.

The SDIS 30 anti-pollution unit deployed

If the analyzes taken by the gendarmes must still be examined, the product used would be a biocide, known to kill bacteria, mold and insects. Its presence in the river is therefore not very reassuring for biodiversity. This is why the SDIS 30 anti-pollution unit was deployed immediately, in order to channel the product, protect the surrounding areas and carry out pumping. The gendarmes, for their part, alerted the municipalities near the Hérault river, while specifying that a priori, the risk to the population would remain low. An investigation is opened to determine whether the product used by the subcontractor complies with standards.
