A delegation from Magenta (1) of Châteauroux led by Colonel Gérard Génichon and composed of around ten members, recently went to La Londe (Seine-Maritime), near Elbeuf, to inaugurate a stele erected in memory of fifteen soldiers from the Châteauroux regiment who died in 1940, during the battles of the Bridges on the Seine.

During this battle led by Captain Georges Charlemagne, originally from Châteauroux, the soldiers were cut off from all communication and fought until their ammunition ran out.

In the presence of families

Chaired by Jean-Pierre Jaouen, mayor of La Londe, and by Denis Collanges, local historian who initiated the event, this demonstration took place in the presence of 127 relatives of the victims and 40 flags.

This is the second time that the association has visited a battlefield: in 2021, a delegation went to Aisne to commemorate the battles of “L’Orme de Montécouvé” which took place from August 18 to September 7, 1918.

(1) The Le Magenta association brings together former members of the 90e Châteauroux Infantry Regiment, dissolved in 1998. Gérard Génichon, president of Magenta, was its last corps commander.
